Both were contestants in the Mississippi Junior Miss program last week in Meridian. It is rare that two girls from the same county place first and second in the state program, but that is exactly what happened Saturday night. There were 43 contestants from all over the state. As to what the two 17 year olds said to one another after the competition was over, Rayne told us, "When Katie walked in, I said Katie, wow! The two young ladies have become friends in just a short time. They have a lot in common, and not just the fact they both live in Jackson County.

Both are sang in the talent competition, and both girls hope to attend Columbia University after they graduate from high school. Katie and Rayne took a lot away from the Junior Miss experience. Both girls said the recognition and fame that comes from the Junior Miss experience is wonderful, but it won't change who they are in life. The national program is next June in Mobile.
